Single day registration for the conference is available for $100 a day.  The daily registration fee includes attendance at all sessions during the day, lunch, and the social events on July 31 and August 1 (if applicable).  The conference website does not provide an option for daily registration, but you can pre-pay for daily registration by sending an email to ggbrown@calpoly.edu with the days you would like to attend.

The program features presentations from international leaders in participatory mapping, organized sessions, workshops that provide training in participatory mapping methods and GIS technology, and working/discussion groups that seek to advance participatory mapping in the thematic areas of (1) urban planning, (2) indigenous rights and rural development, (3) environmental and natural resource planning and management, and (4) mapping tools and technology.

The deadline for proposals for presenting has been extended to at least April 15, 2017 to encourage participation.  After April 15, we will prepare a draft program based on the proposals received.  Even if you don’t plan to present, please consider attending the conference.  The conference will feature leading figures in the world of participatory mapping.

The “soft” deadline (March 1) for conference proposal submission has passed.  However, we are still encouraging proposals to achieve as broad participation as possible.  We have received over 50 proposals from some of the leading participatory mapping academics, planners, and practitioners around the world.  Please submit your conference proposal now.

Attend and/or participate in the Participatory Mapping/GIS 2017 Conference to be held at California Polytechnic University in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California (Jul 31 – Aug 3, 2017).

Proposals for participation are encouraged by March 1, 2017 and can be submitted through the conference website:  http://mapping2017.info  Conference registration and housing are available on the website.

The goal of Participatory Mapping/GIS 2017 is to bring together an international community of academics, planners/managers, and practitioners to (1) identify state of knowledge in participatory mapping methods, (2) to learn new mapping applications and technology, and to (3) identify best practices, standards, and future research needs. The conference will feature multiple themes and applications in participatory mapping including land and marine planning and management, urban and regional planning, rural development, biodiversity conservation, indigenous rights, social justice, ecosystem services, and participatory governance.

Early proposals submitted include participatory mapping applications from the U.S., Brazil, Cameroon, Suriname, Caribbean islands, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, and Europe.  There will also be training sessions provided by attendees, including the Google Earth Outreach team.

Conference Registration Fees

Early Bird Registration (December 15 – June 16): $300.00

Late Registration (June 16 – July 31): $400.00

Student Registration: $200.00

Conference registration includes opening reception food (July 31), lunches, and coffee breaks.  Breakfast is included for those staying in campus accommodation.

Here is a description of conference housing for those wanting to stay on campus.

Single Room in Shared Apartment: $78.75/person/night

Guests choosing the Single Room option will be assigned to a single private bedroom in a shared, gender-specific apartment, sharing the common living room, kitchen space, and bathrooms.

Full Apartment: $218.50/night

This option includes an entire, private 4-bedroom (with twin XL beds), 2-bathroom apartment for the whole family or couples to enjoy.

Please note, different gender couples, families, or friends who choose the Single Room option will not be housed together.

Please choose the Full Apartment option to house individuals of different genders together.

Please note: Room configurations may vary.

Housing Accommodation Amenities:

Linens: Bed linens, towels, and basic toiletries provided for each bedroom

Kitchen: Use of the oven, stove, microwave, and refrigerator in the apartment; please be aware, the room does not include pots, pans, utensils, etc.

Breakfast: Complimentary bagel/pastry and coffee/tea for each guest each morning

Recreation: Access to the pool, recreation equipment, and laundry rooms

Parking: Covered parking for one vehicle per reservation in an adjacent structure

Check-In: 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Guests may check-in anytime after 1 pm on the day of their first reserved night.

Check-in is available until 10 pm. If you are planning on arriving after 10pm, please call the Conference & Event Planning front desk before 8 pm to make the necessary arrangements.
