Attend and/or participate in the Participatory Mapping/GIS 2017 Conference to be held at California Polytechnic University in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California (Jul 31 – Aug 3, 2017).
Proposals for participation are encouraged by March 1, 2017 and can be submitted through the conference website: http://mapping2017.info Conference registration and housing are available on the website.
The goal of Participatory Mapping/GIS 2017 is to bring together an international community of academics, planners/managers, and practitioners to (1) identify state of knowledge in participatory mapping methods, (2) to learn new mapping applications and technology, and to (3) identify best practices, standards, and future research needs. The conference will feature multiple themes and applications in participatory mapping including land and marine planning and management, urban and regional planning, rural development, biodiversity conservation, indigenous rights, social justice, ecosystem services, and participatory governance.
Early proposals submitted include participatory mapping applications from the U.S., Brazil, Cameroon, Suriname, Caribbean islands, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, and Europe. There will also be training sessions provided by attendees, including the Google Earth Outreach team.
